About

Mountain Biking Camp – Wash Park focuses on learning and practicing mountain biking skills on trails. Campers work on bicycle maintenance basics, safety checking bikes, solving gear problems, and changing flat tires. They practice proper helmet and bike fit, basic bike commands, bunny hops, track stands, braking, shifting, and riding on rolling single and double track terrain, including descending and ascending trail sections and riding narrow and winding trails.

The camp runs in one-week sessions with camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM, and extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes, gears, and wider tires; a bike rental option is available during registration. To register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and if they do not meet this requirement, the camp may move them to a different program if space is available or remove them from the group and offer a credit. Campers are grouped by grade range into 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Instructors are all 18 and older, described as insatiable outdoors experts with serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes Founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization notes that its summer camps are highly acclaimed, its programs evolve for ages 3 through 17, and the camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which includes a promise of an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, with the next Avid4 Adventure camp free if these promises are not met.

Avid4 Adventure is accredited by the American Camp Association, is a Certified B Corp, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. It operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Testimonials from parents in September 2023 describe children learning new outdoor skills, including learning to ride without training wheels, and report that their kids enjoyed the camp experience and were active every day.
