Stephen Knight Center for Early Ed, 1650 S Birch St, Denver, CO 80223
About
Mountain Biking Camp – Wash Park focuses on mountain biking and trail riding, including riding on rolling single and double track terrain and navigating narrow and winding trails. Campers practice specific biking skills such as bunny hops, track stands, braking, shifting, and descending and ascending trail sections. They also learn bicycle maintenance basics, including learning to properly fit a helmet and bike, safety checking bikes, solving gear problems, and changing flat tires.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off - Starting at 8 AM $35; After Care - Pick up 3-5:30PM $105; Bike Rental $50; Avid4 Merch - Delivery at Camp Prices Vary (Tax Incl.)
The camp runs as a one-week session with camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM, and extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are grouped by grade range into 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes, gears, and wider tires, and bike rental is available if selected during registration. In order to register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and if a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, the program may move the camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. The program provides transportation to and from recreation areas and access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, using professional-caliber equipment, and transports campers to authentic local recreation areas they can keep coming back to explore.
Avid4 Instructors are described as the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers, are all 18 and older, and have serious safety and skills training. The leadership team is headed by David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization states that it believes in empowering kids of all ages from PreK–12, hires committed and experienced instructors, teaches campers solid skills including how to use sound judgment and problem-solving in all aspects of their lives, and that its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. It also states that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe without “packing them up in bubble wrap” and gives kids the knowledge and confidence to take calculated, well-communicated risks.
Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. As a Certified B Corp, it is committed to public transparency and accountability, runs summer camps accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. The Mountain Biking Camp – Wash Park is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which states that if Avid4 Adventure does not meet its promises of an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, increased confidence, and a customer experience that exceeds parents’ expectations, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free (“your next Avid4 Adventure camp is on us”). Avid4 Adventure also states that it organizes big adventures in beautiful recreation areas.
Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a camp where a child who previously biked with training wheels learned to ride without them and later considered stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking as favorite activities. Another parent states that their child wanted them to join to see what they learned each day and describes the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, calling it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third parent reports that their kids had “the best time” at camp, still talked about it more than a month later, wanted to return the next year, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
