About
Adventure Camp Golden introduces campers to a range of outdoor sports, including mountain biking, biking, rock climbing at a local crag, hiking on trails, canoeing, kayaking, and paddling a stand-up paddleboard. The program is described as the home of multi-sport adventure and organizes big adventures in authentic local recreation areas, which campers can keep coming back to explore. Campers get access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and they can either bring their own bikes or borrow from the camp’s fleet, which accommodates campers of any size.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, with extended care available 8:00 AM–5:30 PM
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off (starting at 8 AM) $35; After Care (3–5:30 PM) $105; Avid4 Merch (delivery at camp, prices vary, tax included)
A sample weekly activity schedule includes climbing on Monday, hiking on Tuesday, kayaking on Wednesday, biking on Thursday, and canoeing on Friday. Every activity starts with a discussion about risks, prevention, and response, and campers are taught to take calculated, well-communicated risks and become more thoughtful, responsible risk takers and problem solvers. Avid4 Adventure provides transportation for campers to and from local recreation areas for each day’s adventure sport, and parents and campers meet staff at a consistent location daily for drop-off and pick-up.
Campers are grouped by grade range so that first-time and returning Adventure campers can build on their skills and confidence year after year. In this structure, 2nd–4th graders concentrate on getting comfortable with new activities with support from staff and returning campers, while 5th–7th graders focus on teamwork, mentorship, and deepening their technical competence. Programs evolve as campers grow, from age 3 through 17, and multiple sessions are said to result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment and environmental awareness, and improved ability to connect socially and make new friends.
The camp is led by outdoor instructors described as the best around, all 18 and older, with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training. Top Tier Staff are the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers, and Avid4 Adventure hires high-class outdoor educators and is committed to paying them a fair wage. The leadership team includes Founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry.
Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at its programs kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization believes in empowering kids of all ages from PreK–12 and runs top-notch, highly acclaimed summer camps. Avid4 Adventure does everything in its power to keep kids safe but does not “pack them up in bubble wrap.”
The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence for campers; if Avid4 Adventure does not meet its promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free for the family. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service. The organization is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
Parent testimonials describe strong camper engagement and new skills. One parent reported that this was their daughter’s favorite camp, that she tried stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and biking for the first time, and that during camp she learned to ride a bike without training wheels (Emily Medress, September 2023). Another parent noted that their child was eager to share what she learned each day and described Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, calling it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills (Molly Marienthal, September 2023). A third parent shared that their kids had “the best time” at camp, were active every day, and were learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer, and that the kids were still talking about camp more than a month later and wanted to return the next year (Suzanne Dayton, September 2023).
