About
artSPARK Creative Studio Camps and Classes offers hands-on art making that includes collaborative art projects, sensory activities, open studio time, and cooperative games. Kids work with 2-D and 3-D art, drawing, digital media, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, ink, ceramics, fiber arts, and mixed media, and can also join a sewing class. The studio provides a wide selection of supplies, from brushes and paints to clay and collage materials, and uses a colorful studio space that serves as a dynamic canvas.
• Ages: 3–13 years old
• Schedule: Week-long camps with half-day sessions, a six-week sewing class, and flexible single-day or full school break options
• Price: Discounted rate for a full break of artistic discovery
artSPARK Creative Studio Camps and Classes offers kids’ art camps during summer, fall, winter, and spring breaks, with options for preschoolers through 8th graders. Week-long camps end with an Artists’ Celebration where campers display their work and share their creative process with family and friends. The program includes a Pre+K Camp for preschool and kindergarten children, a 1st–8th Camp with a variety of activities, half-day Summer Clubs for focused skills development, and end-to-end creative parties. Camps blend structured skill-building with free-form expression, have no overarching theme, and encourage young artists to follow their own ideas or draw from instructor-led demonstrations. Classes are guided by Studio Habits of Mind, use discovery-based teaching strategies and artist-approved techniques, and combine serious art practice with playful exploration while supporting independence in the creative process and sensory play. The Littleton program was founded in 2016, and an Arvada location is opening in April 2025, with parties and camps available there and classes, courses, and workshops coming soon.
The leadership and studio team includes Owner Heather Pridemore; Studio Coordinator Rachel Brazell; Instructors Elle Boettner, Emily Milbauer, Emma Brown, Lucas Moyers, Sarah Rostemo, Syd Jensen, and Taylor Heinke; Studio Assistants Michelle Sepulveda, Nora McGovern, Spencer Breece, and Tori Lucero. Heather Pridemore holds a Bachelor’s in Fine Art, has nonprofit experience in museums and educational programming, over a decade of corporate experience, and an MBA. Studio Coordinator Rachel Brazell is an experienced educator and program manager with a background in arts-based programming, has led classroom workshops and summer camps, managed instructional teams, and designed enrichment programs in nonprofit and educational settings; she holds degrees in History and Theatre from Doane University, a Secondary Social Studies Education degree with a Theatre endorsement from MSU Denver, and has completed coursework at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design focused on historical and contemporary visual culture, working primarily in charcoal, graphite, ink, and ceramics. Instructor Emily Milbauer has a background in Educational Studies and Art, double majored in these fields at Illinois Wesleyan University, has several years of early childhood education experience, and maintains a personal art practice focused on fiber arts and mixed media. Studio Assistant Nora McGovern has an Interdisciplinary Studies degree focused on Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education and has taught Pre-K and multiple grade levels in Denver-area schools. One instructor is an experienced art educator who has taught Pre-K through 12th grade in public and private schools, most recently as a Middle and High School Art Teacher at Geary Public Schools, has developed curriculum, led classroom instruction, supported a wide range of learning needs, holds a degree in Arts and Art Education from York University with a concentration in printmaking, and brings leadership experience from operational and supervisory roles. Another artist and educator on the team has taught K–8 students in schools and private instruction, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has a multidisciplinary practice focused on drawing and digital media informed by an interest in science, technology, and conceptual exploration. A further instructor works primarily in drawing and painting with a focus on watercolor and acrylic inspired by nature, holds a Bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University in Psychology, Sociology, and Human Development and Family Studies, and currently works with foster children in the community.
artSPARK states that it focuses on the creative process and uses studio experiences that prioritize autonomy and exploration, guided by Studio Thinking and Studio Habits of Mind. The program’s mission describes combining artistic techniques, creative concepting, and communication, and emphasizes the power of art to forge connections, solve problems, and offer self-expression. The mission also states a commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment welcoming children of all ages from toddlers to teenagers, abilities, races, genders, orientations, and experiences, and asks participants to be kind, patient, and mindful with themselves and others.
Parent testimonials describe “awesome summer camps and weekly programs,” mention a six-week sewing class that a child “expected to hate but totally loved,” and state that “having artSPARK has allowed [my son] to love art and think of himself as an artist.” Other parents describe it as “a wonderful place for children to explore their creative side” and say that instructors “love what they do,” are “so patient with the kids,” and “do whatever they can to help a young artist bring her vision to life.”
