About
Avid4 Adventure Camps offers a weeklong backpacking expedition that includes backpacking, hiking, navigation skills such as using a map and compass, campfire chats, pitching tents, cooking meals on backcountry stoves, gear management, backcountry cooking, and teambuilding. Campers also take part in mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, and paddling, and may experience longer hike days and layover days with light day packs to nearby peaks or high alpine lakes. Campers sleep in backpacking tents with no access to showers, toilets, or running water, and all water is filtered from local sources for drinking, hand washing, and food preparation.

All Avid4 Adventure instructors are 18 or older, are described as incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and are characterized as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids. They have serious safety and skills training, are noted as the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers, and are described as talented teachers who connect with kids and encourage them to challenge themselves. The Expedition Girls Backpacking Colorado camp is offered in an all-female identifying environment.
Avid4 Adventure states that campers are taught to take calculated, well-communicated risks rather than being overprotected and that campers learn Leave No Trace principles, including how to properly dispose of human waste through burying in the ground or carrying it out. The program has a Difficulty Rating of 2 – Single Sport Specialty and a Wilderness Rating of 3 – Backcountry Wilderness Camping. Transportation is provided to and from recreation areas, and campers have access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, with backpack rental available for an additional fee.
Avid4 Adventure’s mission is to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet, to set them on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship, and to build kids’ skills, confidence, grit, and determination, teaching a new generation of adventurers to thrive in the outdoors. The organization states that its programs evolve with campers from age 3 through 17 and that its summer camps, overnight camps, school programs, and events are accredited by the American Camp Association and named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp committed to public transparency and accountability and operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service.
The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure describes its camps as top-notch, highly acclaimed summer camps and offers an Avid4 Adventure Guarantee that promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, increased confidence, and a customer experience that exceeds expectations; if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free.
Parent testimonials describe campers learning new outdoor skills and activities and wanting to return. One parent reports that their child’s favorite camp activities now include stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking, and that the child learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp and shortly after. Other parents describe the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, and note that their kids were active every day and continued talking about camp weeks later.
