About
YMCA of Pueblo Youth Sports Leagues offers youth soccer, youth volleyball, flag football, and youth basketball, including specific seasons such as Spring Soccer, Spring Volleyball, Spring Flag Football, and Winter Youth Basketball. The leagues use volunteer coaches and include both recreational and competitive options in certain sports, such as competitive volleyball leagues for ages 8–14 and competitive Winter Youth Basketball leagues for ages 8–14. The youth volleyball and flag football leagues are co-ed, and the Winter Youth Basketball league is co-ed for ages 7 and under, with separate boys’ and girls’ leagues beginning at age 8.
• Ages: 3–14 years old
• Schedule: Practices are held Monday through Friday evenings for an hour a week, with games on Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays; each league season includes six games.
• Price: Late registrations will incur a $10.00 late fee.
Spring Soccer, Spring Volleyball, and Spring Flag Football each have a six-game season running from April 4 to May 10, 2026, with no games on Easter Sunday, and practices beginning March 23, 2026. Winter Youth Basketball has a six-game season from December 13, 2025, to February 8, 2026, with practices beginning December 1, 2025, a holiday break from December 22, 2025, to January 4, 2026, and a competitive league tournament on February 7–8, 2026. The flag football league is a co-ed league for ages 4–12, and teams in flag football practice and play one time each week. Competitive volleyball leagues, which depend on the number of participants, include an end-of-season tournament, and referees do not monitor play time in these competitive leagues. Players ages 13–14 in Winter Youth Basketball are automatically placed in competitive leagues that include scorekeeping, standings, and an end-of-season tournament, and games on Sundays are planned for Boys 8–10 and 11–12 in Winter Youth Basketball.
Families use a website called Playerspace for information and communication with coaches, and the registration questionnaire allows parents to request players they want to play with their child. Sports rules are subject to change if the YMCA of Pueblo sees a need to adjust any of the rules, and safety is stated as the top priority, with rules in place for participant and staff safety. Full scholarships are offered seasonally in flag football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball youth sports leagues through the Dr. Bruno DeRose Memorial Scholarship, which is available for participants ages 4–14 who live in Pueblo County and complete the application.
The YMCA of Pueblo states that it is a charitable organization and includes everyone in its sports activities regardless of ability to pay, supported by its Financial Assistance program and Annual Campaign. The Dr. Bruno DeRose Memorial Scholarship was established by his family in honor of a community member who got his start in sports at the YMCA of Pueblo. The organization states that it invests in kids, health, and neighbors and provides ways for people to get involved and give back to the community.
The YMCA of Pueblo has been serving the Pueblo area since 1889 and reports more than 135 years of direct engagement with children and adults from all segments of its communities. Its mission is “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” The YMCA of Pueblo has been awarded Praesidium Accreditation, described as the highest honor for abuse prevention practices by Praesidium, and is one of the first 30 YMCAs in the country and the first in Colorado to receive this accreditation, which is renewed every three years.
