For over a decade, DC Central Kitchen has been a partner in delivering healthy food and nutrition education at Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The program’s mission is to use baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among youth living in underserved communities. In partnership with 4P Foods, the academy operates the only year-round farmers market in Ward 7 for community residents and includes a “Healthy Corner” store at the facility. Nationals Philanthropies hosted a week of programming at the Youth Baseball Academy to celebrate Jackie Robinson’s legacy. The academy reports afterschool and baseball programs with 6,000 youth participants to date.
