Dunwoody Nature Center reports an environmental improvement approach that includes invasive plant removal, use of native species, limited mowing and trimming, and careful management of fallen trees. Its educational approach includes sharing information about native plants and animals, exploring relationships among inhabitants and human impact, training children to be “backyard naturalists,” and appealing to different learning styles. The center has a diversity, equity, and inclusion policy that embraces and encourages differences in many personal characteristics.
Dunwoody Nature Center is a 501(C)3 nonprofit and is entirely community supported. It relies on volunteers including individuals, students, corporations, service organizations, and other groups to help with projects and special events. The center reports more than 30,000 park visitors annually and more than 17,000 people served through camps, programs, or education center visitation, and it offers 12 months of scheduled nature classes for children, adult programs, special events, overnight camping programs, field trips for school and scout groups, and outreach programs to area schools. Membership benefits include savings on camps, classes, rentals, and more.
