Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is described as the largest after-school theater arts training program for students ages 5–18 and has grown to include nine chapters throughout northern Illinois and southeast Wisconsin. Instructors are professionals qualified in teaching and/or performing who understand the organization’s mission statement, values, objectives, and goals. The mission statement of CYT is to develop character and creativity through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting Jesus. As of its 25th anniversary season in 2022, CYT Chicago had produced more than 460 theatrical productions, with over 35,000 participating families and more than one million patrons, and it produces numerous Broadway-style musicals each year in Illinois and Wisconsin. Enrolled students ages 8–18 have the opportunity to audition and perform or work behind the scenes in Broadway-style musicals, and auditions are reserved for students participating in educational programming. CYT programs also include HYPE, Improvapalooza, Music Fest, Experience 150 Dance, and the yearly CYT EXPO, and CYT shows are described as appropriate for the entire family. Summer camps for kids ages 5–18 culminate in a showcase performance for family and friends, and typical camps include theme-related devotionals along with team competitions. The leadership team for CYT Chicago includes Vicky Lewis as Class Coordinator, Jenni Miller as Production Coordinator, and notes that Tom and Bonnie Bienert founded the first branch of CYT outside California in 1997, with Justin Parks as the Artistic Director. Families may also encounter options such as a Refer-A-Friend coupon request for $25 off a first CYT class for eligible families and CYT Chicago car decals available for purchase.
