About
Elmhurst Gymnastics offers gymnastics classes with specific options such as Meteorites, Intro to Gymnastics, Asteroids, Twinkle Stars, Lasers Boys, girls’ gymnastics classes, and boys-specific gymnastics classes. The program also includes a Competitive Gymnastics Team, girls prep teams, Tumbling Basics and Advanced Tumbling for Cheer & Gymnastics, Adult Gymnastics, Preschool Open Gym, Girls and Boys Gymnastics Camp, Private Lessons, Family Open Gym, Gymnastics Middle School Night, and Family Open Swim. Gymnastics classes incorporate aspects of physical fitness, motor development, hand-eye coordination, strength, and flexibility, and early childhood classes include a parent/child class with songs, obstacle courses, and group activities.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Preschool Open Gym meets Fridays from 9–10:30 am between January 9 and March 27; girls prep teams run as school-year-long programs.
• Price: Preschool Open Gym Pass Rate (R/NR): Day Pass $10/$11; 6-visit Punch Pass $55/$69; 12-visit Punch Pass $110/$138
Boys programs introduce all six men’s Olympic events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar, while girls’ gymnastics focuses on vault, bars, beam, and floor. Entrance into Boys Intermediate/Advanced and Girls Intermediate and Advanced classes is skills based and requires instructor approval, and gymnastics staff may move students to the appropriate level if needed. Summer Girls and Boys Gymnastics Camp is a week-long recreation camp that includes basic skill instruction on all gymnastics events, indoor and outdoor games, and dance, and no prior gymnastics experience is needed for this camp. One-on-one private lessons are available to work on gymnastics skills, and a progress report from the gymnast’s instructor is distributed during each session.
Preschool Open Gym is for children up to age 6 with an adult, with age requirements strictly enforced and an adult parent/guardian required to be present, and participants can explore the gymnastics facility with staff on hand to ensure safety and proper usage. Purchase of a Preschool Open Gym punch pass online allows families to skip the daily pass line. Non-participants are not allowed in the gym and must remain in the lobby area until class is completed, Parent View Weeks are no longer hosted for safety concerns, and make-ups for missed classes are not offered.
Proper attire is mandatory: girls wear a gymnastics leotard or shorts and t-shirt with no tights and no jewelry, and boys wear shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt, with bare feet recommended. Clothing with buttons, zippers, or snaps is not allowed because it presents a safety hazard, participants are not allowed to chew gum, and food or drink is not allowed in the gymnastics center. Participants must stay off the equipment and floor mat until it is their class time and they are called by their instructor.
The Elmhurst Park District states that it takes safety seriously and notes that injuries can occur with any active sport or recreation. The District has a mission statement of “We enrich lives while having fun!” and has identified becoming a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and belonging organization as a strategic plan priority in the Elevate Elmhurst Parks Plan. The District’s employee DEIB Team created the Inclusion Vision Stand to define the vision for sustainable DEIB efforts and fostering inclusion, and the District has made a commitment to inclusion with a stated vision of a future in which the community welcomes, respects, and encourages the contributions of all. Leadership for dance, gymnastics, and theater program staff includes Kelsi Grubisich.
