About

Elmhurst Summer STEM Academy includes hands-on courses that let students sharpen math skills, develop scientific knowledge, and explore social justice in STEM. The program includes chances to sharpen skills in advanced algebra, trigonometry, and problem-solving, and to use computers and the internet to explore STEM. Students become familiar with major software packages used in STEM, including Matlab and Maple, and take part in faculty and guest lectures.

• Schedule: The 2026 Academy meets face to face Monday through Friday beginning on July 20, 2026.\n• Price: Registration fee: $70 (scholarships available) *waivers are available for qualifying students. Fee for optional college credit: $300.

Elmhurst Summer STEM Academy is under the direction of Professor of Mathematics Evans Afenya, Ph.D., who teaches the Math 110 course. The leadership team includes Evans Afenya, Ph.D., Professor of Mathematics and Academy director, and Admission Counselor Missy Gillis as the contact for questions about the STEM Academy. The 2026 Summer STEM Academy is an in-person event Monday through Friday and features faculty and guest lectures plus hands-on courses for aspiring college students and first-year college students who are interested in STEM fields. All students attending Elmhurst’s STEM Academy are offered a $2,000 annual scholarship toward an undergraduate degree program at Elmhurst University. Need-based scholarships are available to students who qualify, and waivers are available for qualifying students for the registration fee.
