About
Elmhurst Summer STEM Academy includes faculty and guest lectures, hands-on courses, and activities that use computers and the internet to explore STEM. The 2025 Academy meets face to face Monday through Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. on July 21, 2025, and is offered in a hybrid format with both online and in-person non-residential parts.

• Price: Registration fee: $70 (scholarships and waivers for qualifying students; fee for optional college credit: $300)
The Academy is under the direction of Professor of Mathematics Evans Afenya, Ph.D., who teaches the Math 110 course. The leadership team includes Evans Afenya, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Academy director, and Admission Counselor Missy Gillis. To explore the option of need-based scholarships, students should submit a letter of eligibility from their high school counselor indicating that they qualify for free or reduced lunch. All students attending Elmhurst’s STEM Academy will be offered a $2,000 annual scholarship toward an undergraduate degree program at Elmhurst University. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full, and parents are encouraged to watch because their participation in the Academy will help them be active partners in the student’s college experience. The program theme is “Engaging the World Through STEM to create Equity,” and it includes chances to sharpen math skills, develop scientific knowledge, meet new people, and explore social justice in STEM.
Elmhurst University was founded in 1871 and officially changed its name from Elmhurst College to Elmhurst University on July 1, 2020. Elmhurst University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and maintains specialized accreditations for several educational programs.
