Academy of Stars Childcare

Academy of Stars Childcare offers field trips to places such as a water park, an observatory, miniature golf, and other local attractions, along with academic workshops, weekly and daily themes, and hands-on learning activities. Children take part in simple math, early literacy, science, daily music, art, lots of crafts, outdoor time, and enrichment, and they can receive homework assistance. The program also offers private and weekly piano lessons with piano recitals, counting in Spanish, and monthly visits to an elderly home.

Academy of Stars Childcare has been presenting childcare to Barrington and the surrounding area since 2003, with new ownership beginning in 2017. The program utilizes Creative Curriculum and states that it hires the best early childhood educators. It is licensed with the State of Illinois and offers a full-day program with a limited part-time option Monday through Friday, open year long, with care for infants through age 12 and a school-age summer camp. The program offers a hot lunch, with afternoon reinforcement, snack, and creative activities included, and a catered lunch included in summer camp.

Transportation is available from Roslyn, Countryside, North Barrington, and Algonquin Road School, with flexible days and options for before and after school. Piano lessons are available for children ages 3 and up, and piano recitals are held twice a year. Assessments are done twice a year for each child to track individual growth and development, and parent conferences are conducted in the fall and in the spring if necessary. The program states that it is structured to meet all of the State of Illinois Early Childhood Initiatives and National Learning Standards for Early Childhood, and that its standards are designed to meet or exceed School District 220 and the Illinois State Standards.

Academy of Stars Childcare includes monthly visits to an elderly home as part of its community involvement. One parent describes it as a “great educational facility with dedicated teachers who have focused on the specific needs of our daughter,” and another notes it as “a fun and educational place with emphasis on the arts with lots of crafts & piano lessons.” Other parents mention staff and curriculum “beyond expectation,” a place “to learn, to be creative and to have fun,” and “trustworthy childcare” used for “5 years & counting.” Another parent highlights monthly visits to the elderly home, counting in Spanish, and weekly piano lessons, and comments that “the teachers never cease to amaze me with the unique talents each one brings.”
