Elite Chess was started in 2012 by chess player and coach Jeff DiOrio, and over the last 12 years Elite Chess has expanded its programs and now operates two chess centers. The leadership team includes Founder and CEO Jeff DiOrio, Manager of the Naperville Center Sebastian Aranda, and Manager of the Wheaton Center Usman Qazi. The program’s mission is “Using Chess to Change the World,” with a focus on running top notch chess programs that teach life skills along with chess skills, offering positive opportunities for chess players from all walks of life, and emphasizing charitable giving and making the community a better place.
Founder Jeff DiOrio spent 15 years in education as a math teacher, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal at Naperville North High School, where he coached the chess team to 12 consecutive DuPage Valley Conference titles and an IHSA State Championship in 2015, and he was named Illinois Chess Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2017. The coaching staff includes FIDE Master Srdjan Jefic, a 7-time Bosnian National Champion with a current FIDE rating of 2312 who works as a mathematics teacher in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as coaches and managers with competitive and coaching experience such as Sebastian Aranda, Anthony Kindness, Usman Qazi, Lam Truong, Archit Deshpande, Will Johnson, and Varun Vokkarane, an IHSA State Qualifier. Elite Chess describes its main facility as a state of the art chess center.
Parent testimonials describe children attending the chess academy regularly, participating in tournaments, enjoying weekly lessons, and taking part in online lessons that parents describe as efficient and smooth. Parents Remy K., Fei D., and Paul L. report that their children have become fans of the program, participate in tournaments whenever they can, and have made chess friends at the academy.
