The space is also used for birthday parties, DJ-hosted parties, wedding receptions, business receptions, and other community events.
Center Stage Theater was founded after years of searching for performance space and opened its Main Theater in 2010. It was founded by Executive Director Kandiss Hernandez, who is the visionary behind the Fair Lady Productions family and works with an Artistic Director, Technical Supervisor, and other skilled individuals for day-to-day operations. Center Stage Theater is the home of Kidz Kabaret, described as a flagship non-audition children’s theater group, and Center Stage Players, described as an audition-only youth theater program for experienced students. The theater’s mission states that it brings unique theatrical experiences to the Naperville area, serves as an affordable venue for the entire community, and has become a grassroots incubator for emerging artists. The parent company, Fair Lady Productions, Inc., is described as the parent company of three not-for-profit programs.
The mission statement notes that Center Stage Theater is proud to support emerging artists by providing a platform to launch new initiatives and bold ideas. Community involvement includes welcoming community groups, performers, bands, and budding artists who are looking for a launching pad for their artistic work, and many local theater groups, emerging artists, and community organizations use the performance and event venues. Each year, more than 30,000 community members attend a performance at Center Stage Theater.
Executive Director Kandiss (Kandi) Hernandez is described as a gifted actor whose professional work has taken her to stages in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, from Broadway stages to intimate cabaret houses. She is a member of the Actors Equity Union and holds a BA in Theater/Voice from Bradley University. Free parking is available in the lot at Center Stage Theater.
