Kidz Kabaret

Kidz Kabaret is a flagship non-audition children’s theater group that introduces children and teens to theater through Kidz Kabaret productions. The program offers Summer Camp Programs, acting workshops and classes, private coaching, programs for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and birthday parties. Past and planned shows include productions such as The Little Mermaid, Madagascar Jr., and The Music Man Jr.

Kidz Kabaret is Fair Lady Productions’ flagship program and is officially part of the Fair Lady Productions organization. Fair Lady Productions, Inc. is the parent company of three not-for-profit programs: Kidz Kabaret, Center Stage Players, and Center Stage Theater. Kidz Kabaret is described as Chicagoland’s Premier Non-Audition Children’s Theater Company and as a flagship non-audition children’s theater group. Every performance features all-youth casts, and all students of all ages and abilities are welcome to join a production regardless of previous theater experience.

Every Kidz Kabaret student receives both a speaking part and a supporting role in productions. Each student is typically assigned to two casts, one with a prominent role and one with a supporting role, and each cast typically performs one time, so most students will perform on stage twice. A Kidz Kabaret production can have many casts; for example, a production of The Little Mermaid had 21 different casts.

Kidz Kabaret was created in 2003 by Kandiss Hernandez. The organization holds the vision of “Every Child Center Stage,” and every performance features all-youth casts of all ages and abilities. The mission states that Kidz Kabaret was created as an alternative to traditional audition-based children’s theater programs, that every child deserves his or her moment in the spotlight, and that supporting roles provide valuable opportunities to learn and grow.

Kandiss Hernandez is both Visionary and Chief Executive Officer and manages overall business operations, including show selection and student director internships, and directs Center Stage Players productions. Kandiss holds a BA in Theatre/Voice from Bradley University and is a member of the Actors Equity Union. Megan is operations manager; her duties include directing Kidz Kabaret and Center Stage Player productions, serving as rental manager, and acting as overall operator of productions.

Fair Lady Productions, Inc. is dedicated to bringing the theater to the Naperville community, and nearly 30,000 community members attend one of Kidz Kabaret’s shows each year. The environment is described as loving and nurturing, where students grow, learn skills and develop qualities that will help them thrive in school, in their future careers and throughout their lives. Center Stage Theater is described as a community performing arts center, and free parking is available in the Kidz Kabaret lot.
