About

CTWS Summer Camps offers theatre-focused sessions where campers play theatre and improv games, act and create characters, write their own scenes, and put on shows that include multiple songs and scenes. Depending on the camp, participants learn and perform a play, learn songs and dances, discover dance steps and choreography, practice musical improv, and work on theatre basics such as confidence and stage presence. Every camper is cast in the show, is given a role on day 2, and performs in several numbers and/or scenes in a final “camp version” performance wearing camp t-shirts and black pants or leggings.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Options include one- and two-week sessions in June and July, with morning and afternoon camps and final performances or showcases at the end of each session.
• Price: The Music Man JR: $495; Singin' in the Rain JR: $495; Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!: $595; Improv Camp: $275; Warmup Camp: Theatre Adventure!: $250; Acting Camp: Charlotte's Web: $395.

Summer Camp 2026 registration opens January 7 at 12pm, and campers are grouped roughly by age, with songs and scenes assigned based on age and skill level. Each camper receives 4 tickets to the final performance, and theme days are optional. In Improv Camp and Warmup Camp: Theatre Adventure!, the week ends with a showcase for family and friends, and in Acting Camp: Charlotte's Web, students learn and perform a play in two weeks.

Camps are staffed by qualified theatre teachers and student interns, including a Children's Theatre Director, Children's Theatre Assistant, Camp Coordinator/Production Manager, Drama Teacher/Director, Voice Teacher, Dance Teacher, Theatre Workshop Teacher, and student interns. Every adult staff member goes through an application, interview, and background check process, has years of training and higher-level education in the arts or education, experience working with children, personal performing credits, and experience with theatrical productions, and teachers are trained in basic First Aid and CPR.

The Theatre of Western Springs was founded in 1929 and has run continuously for over 90 years, with the Children’s Theatre of Western Springs founded in 1946. The organization states a mission to entertain, educate, explore, and inspire a community of all ages through the performing arts and acknowledges support from Arts Midwest and the Illinois Arts Council.

Campers are asked to bring a closed-top water bottle filled from home, comfortable clothes, gym or other closed-toed shoes, and a nut-free snack, and cell phones must stay in campers’ bags during camp. For the show, campers need their camp t-shirt, black pants or leggings, tied shoes, and basic makeup including foundation, blush, lipstick, and eyeliner. Emergency medication such as an epi-pen may be left with camp staff in a labeled zip-lock bag, and each camper is given a unique card that must be shown at pick-up.
