About
Victory Gymnastics Academy offers beginner to advanced gymnastics classes for boys and girls, including kids classes, a preschool program, a beginner 5 year old class, and a competitive team program. The program also offers beginning and advanced tumbling classes, as well as open gym sessions. Classes and programs take place in the Main Gym for gymnastics classes and team gym, and in Gym B for preschool and tumbling.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Business hours Monday–Friday 3:00pm–7:00pm; Saturday 9:00am–7:00pm, with Open Gym on Saturdays during Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions from 1:00–2:30pm and during the Summer session from 10:30am–12:00pm.
Victory Gymnastics Academy was founded in 2013 and is fully owned and operated by Gary Stam, who has been involved in gymnastics as a gymnast and coach for 48 years. The mission of the program is to serve the community by creating a safe and fun place for children of all ages to develop the skills to reach their gymnastics goals, and to help each gymnast become the best that they can be, finding a victory in everything that they do, no matter how big or small. The program states, “We offer A Gym Culture Where Everyone is Welcome. Success is measured one student at a time.”
The program offers a full array of classes from beginner to intermediate and advanced levels, including tumbling for boys and girls, with two tumbling classes: beginning tumbling and advanced tumbling. The tumbling program teaches kids how to tumble safely and with proper technique, reinforces safe habits, teaches strength training and hands-on spotting techniques, and prepares students for other sports such as cheer, gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling (T&T), dance, and martial arts. Those who have accomplished a round-off back-handspring unassisted may take the advanced tumbling class, and kids are sometimes grouped in classes by ages 5–10 years old and 10 and up. Popular programs include the Preschool Program for boys and girls, the 5 year Beginner Class, and the Competitive Team Program.
Victory Gymnastics Academy reports that it has helped produce High School Gymnasts of the Year, as well as state, regional, and national champions for both high school and club gymnastics and other sports including track and diving. Since starting the program, they have had a gymnast receive a full athletic scholarship to the University of North Carolina, a level 9 National Champion, and many state, regional, and national team members and champions, and they have supplied sectionals, regional, and state champion gymnasts to both high school programs. The program notes that many former gymnasts have become athlete of the year in gymnastics, track, and diving.
