About

Day Camps at JCC Indianapolis (Camp JCC) includes daily games, nature study, science studies, sports, music, drama, swimming, arts and crafts, and all-camp activities. Campers take part in special theme days and all-day events such as Wacky Wednesdays, Yom Sport, Camp Carnival, Israeli Day, Camp Shabbat, and the Leon Mordoh Lip Sync, as well as off-campus adventures and trips. Each day begins with a Boker Tov (“Good Morning”) song session and includes a Friday Hot Dog cookout lunch during camp weeks.

• Ages: 5–15 years old
• Schedule: Pre-Camp for grades K–9 runs 8 am–6 pm from the day after Memorial Day through that Friday; main camp weeks for grades K–9 run 9 am–4 pm for 8 weeks from Tue, Jun 3–Fri, Jul 25 (closed Mon, Jun 2 for Shavuot); Post Camp for grades K–9 runs 8 am–6 pm for 2 weeks immediately after camp (last week of July/first week of August); Extended Care for grades K–5 runs 3:45–6 pm during the 8 weeks of camp (except specified dates).

For more than 100 years, JCC Indianapolis has served as a neighborhood and community resource, beginning in 1914 at 23rd and Meridian as a place for Jewish immigrants to eat, shower, and socialize, and later moving to its current Hoover Road location. The JCC states that it maintains a multi-generational, inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds and faiths can live, learn, play, and connect, and that core Jewish values that are also universal values are instilled at Camp JCC. The Leon Mordoh Lip Sync performance is named in memory of Leon Mordoh, described as a kind and generous community benefactor who enjoyed Lip Sync and the joy it brought to campers and their families.

Camp JCC includes a counselor-in-training program for 15-year-olds (10th Grade CITs), where participants gain hands-on experience with groups of all ages and their counselors, using a learning curriculum that is described as setting them up to be successful counselors at age 16. Every Friday, each camp group announces a Mensch of the Week, and in sports camps this is a camper who shows sportsmanship.

Before attending, a health form must be completed and on file by the Wednesday before a child’s first day of camp, and registration for a particular camp week closes the Wednesday prior to that week’s first day. Families are asked to prepare campers to be outside and active most of the day, with closed-toe shoes and daily swimming gear, including a bathing suit, pool shoes (flip flops, Crocs, or sandals), sunscreen, and a towel, with all items labeled. Toys, games, Pokémon cards, electronics, and similar items are not permitted; if brought and not put away, they are held by Camp JCC staff until pickup. Recommended items include sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, swimsuit and towel, pool shoes, closed-toe shoes, a sack lunch, insect repellent, a camp bag or backpack, a hat, and a face mask, and the JCC states it is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property that children bring to camp.
