About

Infant Swim Lessons (StarBabies and StarTots) at JCC Indianapolis use the Starfish Swimming program and include StarBabies and StarTots classes in a Mommy & Me or Parent/Tot-type course format. Classes include specific activities such as blowing bubbles, water adjustment, floating, kicking, swimming on tummies, swimming on backs, and stroke improvement. One adult must be in the water with each child, and swim diapers and swimsuits for tots and babies are required.

• Ages: 0–3 years old
• Schedule: In summer, classes are once or twice a week for four weeks; otherwise, classes are once a week for five or six weeks.
• Price: Cost varies per length of session; all swim lessons can be purchased at the Welcome Desk or online using the online registration tool.

The purpose of these classes is to develop in infants and toddlers a high comfort level in the water while training the accompanying adult in water safety and drowning prevention. The course does not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or to survive in the water and provides a confidence-building, fun, and loving experience. A minimum of three sets of parents and tots must be enrolled for a class to run, and if a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants may transfer into another class (space permitting), request a credit that expires one year after the date of purchase, or request a refund by the end of the first week only. There are no make-up classes or refunds due to participant absence. In the Backer Therapy Pool, the floor needs to be lowered to start the class at its scheduled time, so arriving a couple of minutes early ensures being there at the start time.

JCC Indianapolis is a proud provider of Starfish Swimming lessons, which is described as a nationally and internationally recognized swim instruction and instructor certification program that uses innovative and effective teaching methods with safety concepts built in at every level. For more than 100 years, JCC Indianapolis has been a neighborhood and community resource in Indianapolis and has been dedicated to serving the Indianapolis community and responsive to its needs. For more than a century, the JCC has maintained a multi-generational, inclusive environment where all people can live, learn, play, and connect.
