The Indianapolis Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 by Henry Leck and is under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Joshua Pedde. Its mission is: “The Indianapolis Children’s Choir transforms lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community.” The organization serves more than 2,500 young people between the ages of 18 months and 18 years each year and presents regional affiliate choirs as part of its Community Outreach program in multiple counties and locations.

Programs include the Music At Play early childhood program for children 18 months of age through kindergarten, the Foundations Choir for kindergarten singers beginning their choral journey, and a Preparatory Choir program for singers in grades 1 through 3 as a non-auditioned experience. The Jubilate Choir serves singers with special needs. The Indianapolis Children’s Choir also offers six performing choirs for singers in grades 4 through 12, ranging from intermediate to advanced treble and mixed ensembles.

The Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir (CICC) is a cooperative effort of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and is an auditioned group of children from grades 3 through 8 in Bartholomew County and surrounding counties. The CICC program has two choirs: the Concert Choir for more advanced singers and the Descant Choir for beginning members, and advanced singers in CICC are offered tour opportunities, including past tours to Carnegie Hall (New York City), Washington DC, Western National Parks, Ireland, Canada, and central Europe. For 30 years, the CICC Music Camp has brought together kids from seven counties who love to sing. The Anderson Area Children’s Choir (AACC) is a division of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and offers musical experiences to students in preschool through grade 12 in Anderson and surrounding areas.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir regularly appears with orchestras, professional artists, and ensembles of the highest caliber each year and plays a central role in the cultural life of central Indiana. ICC singers have sung for Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations and various state and civic events. The choir has often performed by blind audition for national professional music associations, including five national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The ICC has performed on every continent except Antarctica.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir has produced 15 CDs, including those with the Canadian Brass and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and two videos, In Endless Song and Lives in Tune: The Legacy of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, which commemorated major milestones. The ICC’s music can be found via online music platforms such as Amazon Music, iTunes, Spotify, and many more.

Testimonials describe the choir as organized and a strong addition to events, with comments from partners such as Meribeth Smith & Associates, Eskenazi Health, the Little Wish Foundation, and the National Anthem of Lay Ministry noting the performances and collaboration. An American Choral Directors Association representative, Dr. Scott Dorsey, stated, “Henry Leck has created something for which there is no competition.” Singers have shared personal reflections, including, “ICC grabbed mine!” and “It is a place that I know I won’t be judged. That is what ICC means to me.”
