About

Indianapolis Children’s Choir Programs offer choral experiences and music education through singing in choirs and music classes. The programs include the early childhood music program Music At Play, the Foundations Choir, the Preparatory Choir program, the Jubilate Choir for singers with special needs, six performing choirs ranging from intermediate to advanced treble and mixed ensembles, and regional affiliate choirs. Singers take part in concert season performances, the Angels Sing holiday concert, national and international tours, recording CDs and videos, and live performances at professional conferences, events, and sporting events, including live national anthem performances.

Founded in 1986 by Henry Leck, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir is under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Joshua Pedde. Its mission is to transform lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community. The organization serves more than 2,500 young people each year from nearly 20 counties, more than 360 schools, and 56 school districts, and offers regional affiliate choirs in Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, and Johnson counties, as well as the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir (CICC) and the Anderson Area Children’s Choir (AACC). ICC singers have performed at events such as Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations, the Governor’s Arts Awards, the Indiana Living Legends Award Gala, the Indiana Leadership Summit, the Tenth Pan Am Games, President George W. Bush’s visit to Indiana, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication, Project 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial Dedication Ceremony, the Indianapolis Prize Gala, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

The choir has performed by blind audition for national professional music associations including five national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The Angels Sing holiday concert is broadcast each year by 13 WTHR. In 2013, the choir sang for Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu during his public address at Butler University and performed the national anthem with Grammy-winner Kelly Clarkson at Super Bowl XLVI, and has appeared at major sporting events including the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 and the 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships. The Indianapolis Children’s Choir has produced 15 CDs, including collaborations with the Canadian Brass and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, two videos titled In Endless Song and Lives in Tune: The Legacy of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, and has music available on Amazon Music, iTunes, and Spotify, and has performed on every continent except Antarctica.

Testimonials from event partners and audience members describe the choir as organized and professional, note many compliments from attendees, and reference powerful and memorable performances at events such as the Eskenazi Celebration event, the NALM Conference, and programs with organizations including the Little Wish Foundation. Singers and colleagues have described founder Henry Leck’s work as having “no competition” and have shared personal reflections such as “ICC grabbed mine!” and “It is a place that I know I won’t be judged.”
