About

Indianapolis Children’s Choir Programs offers choral experiences and music education through singing in choirs and music classes. Children can participate in the early childhood music program Music At Play, the Foundations Choir, the Preparatory Choir program, the Jubilate Choir for singers with special needs, and six performing choirs that range from intermediate to advanced treble and mixed ensembles. The program also includes regional affiliate choirs, touring for national and international performances, recording CDs and videos, performing live national anthems, and the Angels Sing holiday concert.

• Ages: 1–18 years old

Founded in 1986 by Henry Leck, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir is under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Joshua Pedde. The organization states that its mission is to transform lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community. It serves more than 2,500 young people between 18 months and 18 years each year and holds 110 rehearsals and music classes each week. The ICC presents its own Concert Season each year, and its Angels Sing holiday concert at Second Presbyterian Church is broadcast each year by 13 WTHR.

Participants in Indianapolis Children’s Choir Programs come from nearly 20 counties and from Indianapolis area suburbs and nearby rural communities. The ICC offers regional affiliate choirs in Boone County (Zionsville), at Butler University, in Hamilton County (Carmel and Fishers), Hendricks County (Avon, Brownsburg, and Danville), and Johnson County (Greenwood). The Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir (CICC) is a cooperative effort of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the ICC, and the Anderson Area Children’s Choir (AACC) is a division of the ICC. ICC singers have performed at Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations and events such as The Governor’s Arts Awards, the Indiana Living Legends Award Gala, the Indiana Leadership Summit, the Tenth Pan Am Games, President George W. Bush’s visit to Indiana, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication, Project 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial Dedication Ceremony, the Indianapolis Prize Gala, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

The ICC has performed by blind audition for national professional music associations including five national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The choir sang for Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu during his public address at Butler University and performed the national anthem with Grammy-winner Kelly Clarkson at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. The ICC has produced 15 CDs, including recordings with the Canadian Brass and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and two videos titled In Endless Song and Lives in Tune: The Legacy of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir. Its music is available on online platforms such as Amazon Music, iTunes, and Spotify, and the choir has performed on every continent except Antarctica.

Testimonials describe the choir as organized and a strong addition to events, with comments from organizations such as Meribeth Smith & Associates, Eskenazi Health, the Little Wish Foundation, and the National Anthem of Lay Ministry. An American Choral Directors Association representative stated that Henry Leck created something for which there is no competition, and ICC and IYC singers describe the choir as meaningful to them.
