Indy Phoenix FC is Indianapolis' low-cost, elite travel soccer club for boys and is built by families for families, players, and especially young men. The club is missionally rooted in the idea that every player deserves the chance to grow, compete, and belong in the game of soccer, and that opportunity should never be limited by cost. High-level training and competitive soccer are made accessible through shared effort, including fundraising, community support, and flexible solutions, and the club is inclusive of all competitive players, including those who cannot afford to play. Eliminating the financial barrier has created an environment of high achievement through socioeconomic and ethnic diversity.
For over 30 years, co-founders Jerry Little and Dan Kapsalis have coached youth soccer, and in 2013 they founded a new type of youth travel soccer club in Indianapolis that was originally named “Millennium Indy” until the summer of 2020. Indy Phoenix FC is 100% volunteer run, with all coaches and administrators serving as volunteers. Coaches are former top soccer players who dedicate their time because they love the game. Former club member Tyler Murphy is an All American at Trine University.
The mission of Indy Phoenix FC is to create an environment that is both physically and mentally challenging, that stimulates soccer players to reach their highest potential both on and off the field, and is low cost so that all athletes who are good enough to make the teams can afford to join, no matter their family’s financial situation. Academic excellence is part of the program, with grades reviewed on a quarterly basis and coaches helping players develop a plan to improve and succeed as needed. The club emphasizes grace and honor through competition, with a focus on life skills of training at 100%, competing at a high level, and learning how to win and lose with grace as a team.
Fundraising is shared by the board, coaches, parents, and players and supported by the local community to help fund the club. Every year, each player is expected to complete at least 10 hours of community service targeting people and organizations that are in need. The club limits out-of-state travel to help families save time and money, and teams generally do not play in out-of-state tournaments until they have beaten all of their local competition. Four tournaments a year (two in fall and two in spring) are provided for all teams through U13, and three tournaments a year for U14–U19, including one post–high school event such as college showcases, are provided. The club’s website is powered by SportsEngine's Sports Relationship Management (SRM) software and is owned by and subject to the Indy Phoenix FC privacy policy.
