About
Coast Kids includes hands on outdoor experiences, informative lectures, trash clean-ups, and nature exploration. The program educates youth and their families through hands on outdoor experiences in how to care for coastal bays, creating the next generation of environmental stewards. Community activities connected to Coast Kids include informative lectures, trash clean-ups, nature exploration and other hands-on opportunities.
Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT), which runs Coast Kids, was first established in 1970 as The Committee to Preserve Assateague Island. ACT’s mission is: “Working with diverse community partners, we protect and defend the health of Delmarva’s waters through advocacy, education, science and the enforcement of clean water laws.” ACT is a proud member of non-profit organizations. Through its Assateague COASTKEEPER, ACT has an on-the-water advocate who patrols and protects the Maryland, Southern Delaware, and Northern Virginia Eastern Shore coastal bays, standing up to polluters and granting everyone’s right to clean water. Assateague Coastal Trust regularly monitors the quality of local waters and publishes the data in MyCoast App, SwimGuide, and WaterReporter.
