FUNCamp offers Musical Theatre and Improv/Comedy Jam sessions where campers take part in acting, singing, dancing, and a morning workout. Campers work on scenes, songs, and dances from Broadway’s greatest treasures and perform a short musical theatre piece at the end of the week for family and friends. In the Improv/Comedy Jam session, campers do basic improv exercises, learn stand-up comedy techniques, practice comedy scene work, and write, create, and perform an original student-crafted comedy improv show that ends with a final Improv Jam for family and friends.
• Ages: 7–16 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions; camp days run from 10 AM to 3 PM
• Price: $400 regular tuition for SESSION 7: JULY 27 – JULY 31.
FUNCamp’s mission statement describes a robust and regionally-acclaimed theater arts curriculum and a no-pressure, enlightening, and stimulating performing arts summer experience for FUNCampers. FUNCamp is an MD State Licensed Youth Day Camp (license # 10-YC-13282). All Teaching Artists are fingerprinted and background checked and have training and certification in First Aid/CPR, threat/violence aversion, and other best practices education in working with under-age children. The camp maintains at least one trained adult for every ten FUNCampers, has a registered nurse on call all summer long, and staff members practice both preventative and supportive discipline techniques. Maryland Ensemble Theatre’s facilities are climate-controlled and are routinely inspected by the City and State to ensure safety for FUNCampers. MOON FESTIVAL ALICE is presented in partnership with The Asian American Center of Frederick. Online registration for SESSION 7 has closed, and registration for that session is available via email or phone. Refund requests must be sent at least 30 working days before the start of the session, and there is a non-refundable $100 deposit.
