About

Gadget Lab offers hands-on projects where participants Solder A Cookie, Make A Ukulele, Design A T-Shirt, Take Something Apart, Find Music In Everyday Objects, and make a copper flashlight. The program uses a project based approach where participants make things and study how they work, with one project leading into another. Gadget Lab collaborates with local talent to include music, art, and instrument making as part of a range of STEAM learning opportunities taught by experts.

• Ages: 8–18 years old

Gadget Lab’s workshops are divided into three primary types of activities: GadgetHeads, CodeHeads, and Arts and Design, and short format workshops offer a variety of one or two day options on different topics. All workshops have a “Screentime” rating and include a list of skills for a Tech Resume where kids keep track of what they have learned, and students can use this resume for summer job applications or for bragging to relatives. Gadget Lab operates under the premise that homes are a laboratory of joy and learning.

The leadership team includes Karen Giacopuzzi as Founder and Owner, Karen Giacopuzzi as Instructor and Owner, Jason Mullinax for Music, and Rustom Meyer for Circuits and Engineering. In 2013 the founder did not yet know about the Raspberry Pi micro controller, and in 2014 the founder became aware of these developments and later started Gadget Lab, which is described as relatively new and such a part of the founder that it is hard for the founder to remember life without it. Gadget Lab has partnered with local non profits like Passion for Learning and Carpe Diem Art to bring workshops to a broader audience through after school and summer school programming.

“I could not have been happier with GadgetLab. My 8 year old son was excited to go to each session and came back happy and thoroughly engaged with each new project they made. A+” — Wendy Spillane, Parent
