About
The EVAA In-House Basketball Program offers basketball activities from kindergarten through 6th grade, including basic skills instruction, developmental in-house leagues, and participation in the South Suburban Youth Basketball League (SSYBL). Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade programs focus on basic skills and fundamentals of basketball, with separate fall in-house seasons and winter Saturday skills-only sessions for 1st and 2nd grade. For 3rd–6th grade, the program includes fall Saturday skills/practice sessions that serve as try-outs, followed by January–February SSYBL games and a season-ending tournament over the weekends of February 22nd and March 1st.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Kindergarten meets in two separate Saturday sessions in fall and winter; 1st and 2nd grade have a November–December fall in-house season with one weeknight practice and Saturday game days, plus seven winter Saturday skills sessions; 3rd–6th grade have six fall Saturday skills/try-out sessions, then at least one weeknight practice and Saturday games in January–February, ending with a late-February/early-March tournament.
• Price: Kindergarten $60 per session; 1st grade $90 for the fall in-house season and $60 for the winter skills session; 2nd grade $90 for the fall in-house season and $60 for the winter skills session.
The kindergarten program introduces the basic skills and fundamentals of basketball in two separate fall and winter sessions, and boys and girls participate together. Kindergarten players may sign up for one or both sessions and receive an EVAA shirt with their name on it. A Kindergarten Coordinator is identified as needed to lead and organize stations for each session, with parents and coaches helping run stations.
The 1st grade fall in-house program includes weeknight group practices where all 1st-grade girls practice together and all 1st-grade boys practice together, and Saturday game days that combine a 20–30 minute warm-up practice with a 20–30 minute game. The 1st grade league is described as developmental, scores are not kept, and rules are taught as games are being played. 1st grade boys and girls are separated, and depending on numbers on the girls’ side, 1st graders may be combined with 2nd graders; players receive an EVAA reversible jersey in the fall and an EVAA t-shirt for the winter Saturday skills sessions, which have no games.
The 2nd grade fall in-house program mirrors the 1st grade structure, with group weeknight practices for all 2nd-grade girls together and all 2nd-grade boys together, plus Saturday game days that include a warm-up practice followed by a game. The 2nd grade league is also described as developmental, with no scores kept and rules taught during games, and boys and girls are separated, with the possibility of combining 1st and 2nd grade girls depending on numbers. 2nd grade players receive an EVAA reversible jersey for the fall in-house season and an EVAA t-shirt for the winter Saturday skills-only sessions, which do not include games.
For 3rd–6th grade, the program is part of the South Suburban Youth Basketball League (SSYBL), and EVAA has teamed up with Apple Valley, Farmington, Rosemount, Eagan, and South Saint Paul to offer a more competitive environment without the level of commitment of the traveling program. Fall Saturday sessions for 3rd–6th grade boys and girls serve as try-outs, coaches place kids on teams based on these sessions, and teams are chosen by the 4th week of fall sessions, with the remaining weeks used for team practice time. Beginning in January, 3rd–6th grade teams have at least one weeknight practice and a Saturday game, and the SSYBL season ends with a tournament over the weekends of February 22nd and March 1st.
The EVAA In-House Basketball Program runs on volunteer coaches, and volunteers are requested for coaching in any capacity, with EVAA stating that the heart and soul of the organization are the people who volunteer their time, energy, and talents. EVAA’s mission is to deliver a diverse range of well managed sports programs to families living within the Eastview High School enrollment boundaries as well as the city of Apple Valley, with a focus on sportsmanship and continuous improvements in developing, promoting, and administering youth sports opportunities. EVAA describes itself as one of the premier youth sports organizations in the Twin Cities and notes 2025 Lightning Sportsmanship Award recipients.
