About

Forest Lake Youth Football offers tackle football for youth players. The program includes player evaluations for 6th–8th grade that are conducted by the Forest Lake High School Varsity coaching staff. Games are played within the Forest Lake Youth Association league, and 2nd and 3rd graders play in the Gopher State Football League.

• Ages: 7–14 years old
• Schedule: The first week of practice will begin mid August.

Forest Lake Youth Football states that it will strive to provide young athletes the opportunity to develop disciplined life skills through family, friends, and the game of football. The program has active representation within the Gopher State Football League for 2nd/3rd, 7th, and 8th grade, and it has partnership and mentorship from Forest Lake High School players and coaches. FLAAA and Forest Lake Youth Football work together to support and participate in the positive development of youth.

The program offers a fully operational website with online registration and is powered by TeamSideline.com. Forest Lake Youth Football tackle is open to any student in the Forest Lake District from 2nd–8th grade, and there are no tryouts or player cuts for 2nd–8th grade. A skill level evaluation camp for 6th–8th grade is used to create balanced teams, and all players who have paid the registration fee and completed necessary forms are rostered onto a team. Families may not request to be on a specific team, and team rosters are final. All players, coaches, and parents must abide by the Codes of Conduct. Clear visors are allowed, but smoked, mirrored, or color-enhanced visors are not allowed, and drones are not allowed at games following MNSHSL rules.

Parents must provide a mouthguard attached or tethered to the helmet, black padded football pants, and football cleats with no metal spikes. Forest Lake youth players are provided with a helmet, shoulder pads, and jersey; the helmet and shoulder pads must be returned to the coach at the end of the season, and the jersey is kept by the player. For 2nd–6th grade, players return helmet and shoulder pads to the head coach after the last game or at a time set by the coach, and all stickers must be removed from white helmets, including the Forest Lake logo sticker. On Saturday, Oct. 31st, all 4th–6th grade Forest Lake and Chisago teams return equipment via the head coach or designee, including the team Forest Lake Youth Football coaches bag, footballs, and any other issued equipment. For 7th and 8th grade players whose last game is on Sunday, Nov. 1st, helmet and shoulder pads are returned to the coach after the game, and the head coach or designee turns in the team coaches bag, footballs, and any other issued equipment. For Evaluation Day, required items are helmet, shoulder pads, padded pants, cleats, a tethered mouthguard attached to the face mask, and plenty of water; a tryout pinnie is provided, and most players wear a practice jersey or t-shirt over the shoulder pads and under the pinnie.
