The Center for Irish Music is a nonprofit community music school that aims to hand down the tradition to the next generation of musicians in its community. It aims to inspire and support the traditional Irish music community in the Twin Cities, throughout the Midwest, and Canada, and has grown into Minnesota’s leading gathering place for professional artists, students dedicated to learning the music, and community volunteers who are passionate about traditional Irish arts. The organization was founded by Kate and Jode Dowling in 2004, became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2008, and moved to its permanent home at the Celtic Junction in 2009. The leadership team includes Executive Artistic Director Norah Rendell, Program and Operations Manager Lily Gaetgaeow, Event, Communication and Outreach Coordinator Mattie Snyder, and Accountant Mattie Ernst. Its activities are supported, in part, by the City of Saint Paul Cultural Sales Tax Revitalization Program and by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
