South Mountain YMCA Youth Programs and Camps offers summer camps, youth basketball, gymnastics, performing arts, Zumba, wellness classes, parent-child activities, and Kids Night Out events. The program also includes Cosmic Kids glow-in-the-dark games and crafts, the Future Makers Entrepreneurial Program, American Red Cross Training: Babysitter, Little Night Owls and Littliest Night Owls, and special events such as Healthy Kids Day, the Duck Race, and a Summer Camp Virtual Open House series. The mission of South Mountain YMCA Youth Programs and Camps is to strengthen the Maplewood and South Orange community by offering high-quality childcare, youth enrichment, and family-focused programs that help children grow and parents thrive. Little Night Owls and Littliest Night Owls are led by South Mountain YMCA Early Childhood Learning Center staff. The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges lists accreditations under the heading “METRO YMCA OF THE ORANGES ACCREDITATIONS.” The Duck Race raises vital funds for local families. School’s Out Vacation Camp is available on days when public schools are closed.
The Future Makers Entrepreneurial Program includes developing an understanding of key business concepts and establishing a business plan, marketing plan, and budget or revenue stream. American Red Cross Training: Babysitter includes training in CPR and First Aid, and participants in this class are asked to bring a peanut-free lunch, with all other materials provided. The Summer Camp Virtual Open House events allow participants to explore camp activities, outdoor adventures, staff, and community, and get questions answered. Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids.
KinderDucks Basketball sessions are structured to provide consistent, low-pressure playing opportunities without the intensity of traditional team settings, with staff supervision to support fair teams, positive sportsmanship, and a fun, competitive atmosphere. Ducks Basketball Fundamental Skills Academy focuses on foundational basketball skills in a fun, structured summer environment, emphasizing instruction, repetition, and confidence-building through age-appropriate drills, games, and guided activities. SGA Pulse is a member account management system that supports an easier check-in process, streamlined program registration and class sign-ups, and improved communication.
