Spanish That Sticks offers Spanish tutoring and instruction that uses stories and conversation in Spanish. Students and the teacher talk about their lives in Spanish, create stories together, role-play, and discuss articles and videos in Spanish using a context-based approach to language teaching. The program also includes focused tutoring for middle, high school, and college students to succeed in Spanish class, along with teaching study skills, memory devices, and grammar checklists.

Ellen founded Spanish That Sticks and is a former classroom Spanish teacher and academic coach who is now fully dedicated to private tutoring. She has 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring Spanish, including roles as a Spanish Tutor since 2004, an After-School Elementary Spanish Class Instructor from 2017 to 2018, a Spanish Teacher at Reynolds High School in 2011–2012, and a Spanish and ELL Teacher and Academic Coach at Forsyth Country Day School from 2005–2011. She holds an M.Ed. from the University of Arizona (2002), a B.S. from The Ohio State University (1999), and is certified to teach Spanish in New Jersey. She studied Spanish while living in Spain and Mexico and mastered Spanish fluency while teaching English in Ecuador, and she has extensive experience working with students with learning differences such as ADHD, auditory processing disorder, dyslexia, and other language-based learning disorders.
The program’s mission states that the purpose of learning a language is to understand and be understood, and that this is where the program starts, following a context-based approach to language teaching. Spanish That Sticks offers one-on-one lessons tailored to a student’s learning style and interests and is available online as well as in person.
Parents and students have shared that Ellen communicates regularly about what they are working on, combines conversation with grammar reviews, and offers homework such as readings and podcasts. Testimonials describe her as patient and knowledgeable, with an ability to identify weak areas in each chapter, create a strong rapport with students, and make sessions fun, and note that students have looked forward to every session with her.
