About
New Community Youth Services offers after-school programs, summer camp, social dances, and a Father-Daughter Dance. The program also includes community service initiatives and leadership training initiatives for young people from the community.
New Community Youth Services is part of New Community Corporation, which was founded in 1968 by Monsignor William J. Linder. New Community Corporation’s mission is to help residents of inner cities improve the quality of their lives to reflect individual God-given dignity and personal achievement. New Community Corporation is recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensive community development corporations in the United States, and as a large-scale deliverer of comprehensive programs and services, a leader in affordable housing and economic development, and a model among nonprofit, social entrepreneurship and community development corporation communities. Its services are provided “Under One Roof” and reach every stage of life, including affordable housing, early childhood learning centers, youth services, adult education, family transitional housing, mental health services, a long-term care facility, a one-stop resource center, a food pantry, a community newsletter, and arts and cultural events. The organization also includes New Community Federal Credit Union, which specializes in serving low-income wage earners and others, including recent immigrants and people with disabilities, with banking services without the fees charged by mainstream banking institutions. Harmony House is a 102-unit shelter within the organization that serves hundreds of homeless families every year, most of them single mothers and children. The organization includes a 180-bed Extended Care Facility that provides a full range of skilled nursing services and sub-acute care, specializing in customized care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The Family Service Bureau of Newark is a licensed outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment center within the organization that adopts an integrated behavioral health model to treat the whole body.
