About

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village Programs, Tours, and Workshops include exhibits, programs, group tours, classes, artisan workshops, and community outreach activities. The program also offers interpretation of authentic agricultural and rural life practices within the Historic Village and on the working farmstead.

• Schedule: 2026 General Admission runs Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM, from May 14 through September 26, 2026 (excluding holidays).

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village’s Historic Village contains ten historic buildings built during the 19th century that were moved to the campus when threatened with demolition and restored to their 19th-century appearance. The indoor museum features rotating exhibits, the Niederlander Research Library, and a collection of more than 40,000 artifacts. The organization has a primary interpretive sub-focus on maker culture, focusing on the who, what, why, and how of the things that people make in agricultural and rural spaces, and it states a belief in energetic, hands-on, all-senses immersion. Guest Services is available Tuesday through Saturday, excluding holidays.

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village’s mission is to preserve, interpret, and exhibit the agricultural history and rural heritage of the Buffalo Niagara region. It was originally established in 1972 by the Town of Amherst, relocated to its current site in 1975, became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in 2011, and notes that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of its move to this location. The museum was chartered by the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents as an educational institution in 1976 and has a GuideStar Seal of Transparency.

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village is supported in part by the Town of Amherst, the New York Council on the Arts, the County of Erie, and its members and friends. It carries out community outreach activities and provides community access to artifacts and historic resources in its Collections and Research Library. The organization acknowledges that it is on the land of the Haudenosaunee People and the Wenrohronon People.
