Pine Grove Country Day School offers Infant, Wobbler, Toddler, Preschool, Summer Camp, SCIS Preschool, Pre-K, K, and Before and After Care programs across its different campuses. Pine Grove Country Day School was founded by Mary Courtney in 1979 and has been serving the Putnam/Northern Westchester community for 40 years. It is a family run school now operated by Mary’s three children: Tom Courtney, Maryanne Courtney-LaRue, and Deb Courtney. Tom has many years of experience in Human Resources on Wall Street and has been working at Pine Grove since 2006. Maryanne has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialty in Literacy and has classroom experience as a head teacher and reading specialist. Deb is a social worker/psychotherapist with children and families, with a PhD in social services and Master’s Degrees in Psychology and Social Work focused on child development.
The programs at Pine Grove Country Day School are certified by the New York State Department of Education and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and are Medication Administration Trained (MAT) certified. The school employs certified teachers and highly trained teaching assistants, and staff attend trainings regularly to use developmentally appropriate methods in the classroom. The mission of Pine Grove is to create a safe, nurturing, fun environment for children to feel loved, learn, and grow into their best selves. Founder Mary Courtney has been recognized in the community with honors such as Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Community Lifetime Achievement Award, and Best Day Care Center Award. She has also volunteered at a school with children in need in Tanzania in the fall of 2012.
