The Putnam Arts Council is a not-for-profit arts service organization chartered in 1963 by the New York State Department of Education, with the statement “Art Matters Here Since 1963.” Its mission states that it is a voice for the arts in Putnam County and maintains a leadership role in fostering, funding, promoting, and developing the visual, performing, and literary arts in Putnam County and the region. The organization’s leadership includes Executive Director Joyce Picone and Regrant Coordinator and Office Administrator Mary Beth Becker, along with a 2025 Board of Trustees Executive Committee chaired by Carlos Passi, with Joyce Picone as President, Dawn Willis as Vice President, and Alex Lindquist as Secretary, and Members at Large Charles Albertario, Nancy Faulds, James T. Meyer, Beryl Polin, Jim Scully, and Helen Senko. The Putnam Arts Council is supported with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor’s office and the New York State Legislature, and with public funds from Putnam County Government as one of its outside agencies, and 2024 supporters include Putnam County, NYS Council on the Arts, Tompkins Bank, Tatiana Kalitsch, and ERIX. The Council states that it extends its programming to reach constituents where they live and work and to provide support for the creative development of artists, students, and cultural organizations.
