PRPH was founded in 1979 and serves people with developmental disabilities who reside in the Hudson Valley region including Putnam, Dutchess, and Northern Westchester Counties, NY. The organization welcomes individuals who have developmental disabilities, with participation contingent on approval for services through the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (NYS OPWDD), a personal interview with families prior to enrollment, and the ability of the organization to meet the specific needs of all participants. Programs are offered on a weekly basis throughout the year and are recognized as an opportunity for high school students to fulfill their Service Learning obligations for graduation. Significant financial support is provided by NYS OPWDD Family Support Services, Putnam County Legislative Grants, NYS Office of Children and Family Services through the Putnam County Youth Bureau, The Nearing Buttremuk Foundation, annual fundraising activities, and individual donations.
The leadership team includes Christine Hildebrandt, President; Lucinda Hess, Vice-President; Lyn Harris, Vice President; Madeline Mattioli, Treasurer; Sylvia Good, Secretary; Barbara Albrecht; Irene Daly, Public Information; Mary Temple; and Mr. Frank Granger, Advisory Member. One parent, Sylvia, reports that her daughter was isolated from friends before joining PRPH and now has an active social life and lasting friends. Another parent, Barbara Albrecht, reports that her son has participated in and enjoyed PRPH Bowling and social events for 25 years and describes it as a great group for friendships and healthy exercise.
