• Ages: 18 months–13 years old
The YMCA of Long Island's Early Childhood/Preschool Programs state a commitment to providing a safe, supportive learning environment for young children to learn, grow and develop social skills. Age ranges for Early Childhood/Preschool Programs are 18 months–4 years old, and the Before and After School Program serves children in grades Kindergarten through Middle School. The YMCA of Long Island’s Before and After School Program includes academic support and hands-on enrichment experiences in a safe and structured environment. Before and After School Programs are described as designed to help children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Development of independence, trust and initiative is fostered through a balanced program of choice and structure, quiet and active play, and group and individual time. Programs encourage children to explore, experiment and learn through literacy, science, dramatic play, block building, art, music and manipulative materials while they acquire school readiness skills of reading and math. The YMCA emphasizes four core values in character development — caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility — in every activity and interaction. Our experienced staff promote positive behaviors, build social skills, and foster a sense of confidence and belonging in every child. All participants in YMCA Child Care programs must have an active Program or Full Membership. In partnership with school districts across Nassau and Suffolk counties, the YMCA of Long Island partners with school districts to support student learning. For 175 years, the YMCA has been keeping families, children, adults and communities safe in and around the water.
