The YMCA of Long Island's Early Childhood/Preschool Programs state a commitment to providing a safe, supportive learning environment for young children to learn, grow and develop social skills. Age ranges for Early Childhood/Preschool Programs are 18 months to 4 years old, and all participants in YMCA Child Care programs must have an active Program or Full Membership. Before and After School Programs are described as designed to help children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, with a balanced mix of choice and structure, quiet and active play, and group and individual time, and they encourage children to explore, experiment and learn while building school readiness skills in reading and math. In partnership with school districts across Nassau and Suffolk counties, the programs provide a safe, nurturing environment that supports student learning beyond the classroom. The YMCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, and its diverse staff includes licensed social workers, licensed mental health counselors, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors, a psychiatrist, a physician’s assistant, and other trained advocates.
