About
Pelham Children's Center operates a full-day preschool childcare program and before- and after-school programs that include child-centric activities with discipline and policies focusing on teaching appropriate behavior and developing friendly relationships with classmates and staff. The preschool program uses mixed-age grouping so children can assist and learn from each other. The Center also runs before and after care programs connected to local elementary schools.
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Preschool and school-age programs run Monday–Friday, with preschool hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, before-school care from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM, and after-school care from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, following the Pelham Union Free School District schedule for weather-related closings and observing major Federal holidays
• Price: There is a one-time registration fee of $100 for the preschool program and a one-time registration fee of $50 for the After Care program
Pelham Children's Center was incorporated in 1970 and has been serving the community for 50 years. It is a community-based non-profit center with a program environment described as a community where children participate in every aspect of the program to develop a sense of belonging and ownership. The Center provides full-day services to preschool children ages 18 months to 5 years old at the RJ Daronco Town House and offers before and after school programming at Hutchinson, Colonial, and Prospect Hill Elementary Schools. The Center provides tuition assistance for many children and has a heavily invested volunteer Board that provides oversight, fundraising, and additional structure to the Center and the programs they lead.
The mission of Pelham Children's Center is to offer high quality and developmentally appropriate childcare, education, and enrichment programs to a culturally and economically diverse group of children, fostering children's intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development, and striving to make its program affordable to families of varying financial means. The Center is a QUALITYstarsNY participant, and both its preschool and school-age programs are licensed by the Westchester Office of Children and Family Services.
The Executive Director, J. Stephen Madey, holds an undergraduate and graduate degree in Music and Education and an additional Masters and Professional Diploma in Educational Administration and Supervision. The After-Care Director, Andre Richards, holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and is pursuing a master’s degree in Kinesiology. Since arriving at Pelham Children's Center, Steve has forged positive relationships with the children, staff, parents, and community. The 2025–26 Board members are Dan Rowoth (President), Brittney D. Price (Vice President), Daniel Deal (Secretary), Neel Chugh, Toby Marxauch-Gusciora, Paula Cardona, Jennifer Pantin-Turner, Ariana McLaughlin, Kristin LaMastra, Siobhan Sheridan, and Karen Gardner.
