Steve & Kate’s Camp – Tarrytown is led by Director Brandon. The camp includes a Media Lab with film, coding, robotics, an interactive virtual reality experience, and interactive art apps, as well as custom-built animation stages for stop-motion animation. The Sewing Salon features custom fabric patterns, sewing challenges, and both hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques. The Tinker Lab offers custom maker packs and 3D pens, and robotics activities use leading-edge robotic technology with guided activities, self-directed games, robot landscapes, and custom mazes. The Gameroom & Lounge includes sensory objects and a thoughtfully stocked bookshelf.

Campers choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. Families can buy any number of days and send their child to camp on any day, drop off and pick up at any time during camp hours, and receive automatic full refunds for unused purchased Day Passes at the end of the camp season. Summer Pass refunds are available if not enough days are used to justify the cost. All-inclusive rates cover all camp hours, snacks, lunch, and any activities that interest the child. Additional state-required paperwork must be submitted for every child before their first day of camp, and a virtual camp orientation is emailed to registered families with details such as drop-off and pick-up procedures, daily check-in and check-out, what to bring, and other camp information.

Since 1980, Steve & Kate’s has celebrated the end of the week with an optional whipped cream pie to the face as part of Friday Pie-Day. The camp’s mission states that during summer, it gives kids freedom to expand and evolve, with campers choosing their activities, companions, and time spent, and describes this experience as both pure joy and a kind of training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. Steve & Kate’s operates more than 90 locations and also runs summer day camps and holiday camps for kids ages 4–12, noting that some states have slightly higher age requirements.

Testimonials describe the program in various ways. Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, states that children at Steve & Kate’s “blossom and discover a freedom of identity” and that “kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate’s.” Apple’s Hot News states, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine notes that Steve and Kate’s Camp did not set out to cater to children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic, but that “given their philosophy, it’s no surprise so many attend.” The Washington Post describes Steve and Kate’s Camp as a blend of traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and Silicon Valley-inspired approaches to programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that “working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.”
