Staff complete specialized training to meet state licensing safety training requirements and complete annual specialized professional development courses. YMCA Before & After School Child Care programs have served children in Central Ohio for more than 36 years, since 1989. Programs are guided by YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, and include children of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities. The program includes a focus on social and emotional learning, including self-awareness, self-management, optimism, relationship-building, and decision-making, and daily physical activity follows Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) guidelines. Custom programs are tailored to meet the needs of families and communities.

Parents are always welcome in programs and can engage through open houses, surveys, parent/child activities, newsletters, daily notes, parent meetings, volunteer opportunities, family events, advisory councils, and program surveys. Children participate in community and service projects such as toy drives, holiday food and gift giving, family events, and pet shelter support, and the YMCA collaborates with schools, businesses and local governments to create positive impact. The organization’s mission is to strengthen communities by empowering all kids, improving individual and community well-being, and inspiring action to meet the greatest needs in the communities it serves.
