The Lorain County Metropolitan Park District was created in 1957 by the Lorain County Probate Court under the authority of Ohio's Park District Law of 1917. It was established for the responsible use, enjoyment, and accessibility of every citizen of Lorain County, and it acquires land to promote and demonstrate the wise use of natural resources. The Park District strives to preserve and create a diversity of ecosystems while providing educational and recreational opportunities that are compatible with and promote conservation of these resources. The park district has grown to over 9,000 acres and is supported by a 1.6-mill levy property tax, earned income, and a variety of sponsors and gifts. Through contributions from individuals, groups, corporations, and foundations, the Park District is able to provide a variety of services and facilities beyond the limitations of its tax levy. All program registrations and facility reservations require a customer account.
