About

Lorain County Metro Parks Educational Programs are offered by the Lorain County Metropolitan Park District and are part of a county-wide effort to provide educational and recreational opportunities that are compatible with conservation of natural resources. The Park District strives to offer these programs for all ages and abilities on a wide variety of topics, and all program registrations and facility reservations require a customer account.

• Schedule: Programs are offered county-wide, and since 1986 the number of programs offered by the Naturalist Department has grown from 386 to over 1,600.

The Lorain County Metropolitan Park District was created in 1957 by the Lorain County Probate Court and has grown to over 9,000 acres. It was established for the responsible use, enjoyment, and accessibility of every citizen of Lorain County, and it acquires land to promote and demonstrate the wise use of natural resources while preserving and creating a diversity of ecosystems. Through these programs, citizens of Lorain County experience diverse offerings related to the natural and cultural resources of the county, along with a wide variety of recreational opportunities, and programs are often offered in schools, nursing homes, community centers, and related locations. The Park District is supported by a 1.6-mill levy property tax, earned income, and a variety of sponsors and gifts, and contributions from individuals, groups, corporations, and foundations allow it to provide services and facilities beyond the limitations of its tax levy.
