Camp Fire Central Oregon has been an innovative leader in youth development since 1916. Its mission statement is that Camp Fire Central Oregon connects young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. The organization has spent a solid century helping youth in Bend discover their “sparks” and lead healthy, joyful and purposeful lives, with a focus on community connection where young people find, build, and contribute to their community and develop meaningful relationships with supportive adults and peers.

The leadership team includes Executive Director Kecia Kubota, Operations Director Melanie Feltmate, Special Projects Director and Grants Manager Mary Bowker, Marketing & Development Associate Director Elana Reinholtz-Lee, Program Specialist Cece Valceschini, and Executive Administrator Javier Leiva. Kecia Kubota holds a Masters degree in International and Intercultural Management with an emphasis in Training and Human Resource Development and has 10 years of experience in the photography industry growing a small business into a 25-employee company. Operations Director Melanie Feltmate has worked as a whitewater rafting guide. Executive Administrator Javier Leiva has worked in education since 2006 with experience teaching children and adults in person and online, and has additional skills in digital technology, research, information retrieval, and project management.

Camp Fire Central Oregon offers programs such as After School, No School Days, Summer, SummerKids day camp, Tumalo Day Camp, STEAM Programs, Camp Fire Afterschool, and Teen Programs. ExplOregon offers half-day, full-day, and week-long camps where kids discover environmental “gems” in the local area, with nature-based field trips inspired by Camp Fire programs from the 1980s and rooted in environmental awareness, appreciation, and preservation. Tumalo Day Camps are highlighted as a pride and joy of Program Specialist Cece Valceschini. Camp Fire Central Oregon states that it strives to make all programs available to as many youth as possible, regardless of ability to pay, and offers financial assistance, and most fee-based programs require a $10–$25 non-refundable fee at registration. Camp Fire programs are kept small to support a specific adult:youth ratio, and the organization describes its spaces as safe places where young people can have fun and be themselves, with staff and programming committed to getting youth outside and helping them engage with and build appreciation for the natural world. SummerKids 2026 includes fresh programming, a prestigious national safety certification, and a new character-centered strategy.

A parent testimonial states: “Thanks for all you do at Camp Fire! I feel deep appreciation for the work you do to give our kiddos great experiences connecting with nature and also through service in our community. I’m really looking forward to my kiddo participating in the leadership building camps. The leaders are great role models!”
