The Eugene Family YMCA states that its mission is to strengthen a diverse community by offering programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. A Y parent reports that a high-school daughter who experiences Down Syndrome and deafness enjoys the freedom, activities, and counselors at Y spaces such as the Corner Hut and Creation Station. Y parents describe their children making friends, playing games, and learning about social connections in Y programs, and one parent notes that Y swim instructors matched a child’s pace and helped remove fear of the water. Y members and families describe the Y as offering activities ranging from daycare with tiny tots to the Corner Hut for teens, and from group fitness classes like BodyPump, PiYo, TRX, Turbo Kick, and Fusion Fit to pickleball and lap and warm water pool use. Testimonials from Y members and parents also highlight staff they name individually, including Jenny, Amber, Brynne, Shelly, Lara, and Stephanie, and refer to the Stewardship Coordinator, Christi Kessler, as part of the Y’s leadership.
