About
Children of the Sea Swim School offers swim lessons, family open swim, and adapted open swim in an enclosed pool with 91 degree water. The program uses a unique water safety program where the pool is treated as the classroom, and classes are kept small. Classes are available for all ages starting at 4 months and up.
• Ages: 4 months–18 years old
• Schedule: Open seven days a week, with day and evening classes available.
Owner Lynne opened Children of the Sea in July 1996 in Portland, Oregon. The leadership team includes Lynne Zavrski (Owner), AJ (Owner & Director), Sarah (Operations Manager), Ashlee (Pool Manager), and Johanna (Pool Manager/Facility Coordinator).
Instructors are described as competent in the latest aquatic techniques with an emphasis on gentle encouragement. Staff are certified in the Children of the Sea Water Safety Program, trained in accordance with the USSA Code of Ethics, and every staff member is CPR and AED certified by the American Red Cross. The stated mission is that children progress at their individual level of learning and readiness, with the belief that each child can learn to love and respect the water, and that through stimulation, positive reinforcement, patience, and practice, students master new skills while having fun, with the goal of teaching children to swim in a fun filled safe environment that builds self-esteem and a feeling of accomplishment.
Owner Lynne also volunteered at Sea Life Park for eight years, where she helped train dolphins and sea lions and conducted the Education Department in lectures for school age children.
