Play It Forward Music Instruction Program offers music instruction and music lessons for children. The program includes performance opportunities and an end-of-the-year recital where students receive applause and trophies.
Play It Forward’s mission is to ensure equal access to Music M.A.G.I.C. Learning a musical instrument in this program is connected to Mental Wellness, Agility, Grit, Independence, and Community in children. Play It Forward provides access to instruments, instruction, and inspiring opportunities to students in need across the Pacific Northwest. Play It Forward overcomes barriers like poverty, racism, and historic marginalization by providing access to instruments, instruction, and inspiring opportunities. In the last two years alone, Play It Forward has found homes for over 200 gently-used instruments, and over 200 gently-used instruments donated by the community have been placed with students and schools. Play It Forward has provided lessons to more than 262 students and has delivered 4,716 hours (9,432 lessons) of music instruction to children in the Portland area. Play It Forward facilitates instrument donation through an online form and then connects with donors to coordinate the donation. Play It Forward is a qualified charitable organization under IRC Sec 501c(3). Play It Forward offers accessibility options on its site, including contrast adjustments, stopping movement, readable font, and underlined links. Play It Forward hosts a 2025 Prelude Event to celebrate Mom with a night of music and enchantment while supporting students and music education.
