Yeates Academy Summer Camps + Workshops include Irish dance, storytelling, music, arts and crafts, dance games, and watching videos of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Campers take part in an introduction to hard shoe and soft shoe Irish dance, review soft shoe dances, learn new dance steps, and learn hard shoe steps and rhythms. Some sessions also include an introduction to ceili (team dancing), ceili dancing, traditional set dances, and a Traditional Set Dance Workshop.

The Jigs for Kids™ camp runs July 6–10, 2026, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and is described as a 5-day, week-long, half-day camp that celebrates Irish culture and traditions via storytelling, music, and dance. The Yeates Beginner Studio Workshop + Summer Camp runs July 13–17, 2026, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and is described as a 5-day, Monday through Friday half-day camp. The Yeates Novice Studio Workshop + Summer Camp runs July 20–24, 2026, as a 5-day, week-long, half-day camp. Summer workshops for Beginner 1 (B1), Advanced Beginner (B2), and New Novice dancers are typically held over a 5-day period in July or August, and each listed summer camp or workshop session is a 5-day camp.
All campers receive a Yeates Academy t-shirt as part of their registration for Jigs for Kids™, the Yeates Beginner Studio Workshop + Summer Camp, and the Yeates Novice Studio Workshop + Summer Camp. Workshop participants are asked to wear a t-shirt and shorts and bring Irish dance soft shoes or ballet shoes, jazz shoes, or tennis shoes, along with a water bottle and snack each day labeled with the camper’s name. Irish dancing shoes are not required for new beginners and camp dancers, but students registering for the Yeates Beginner Studio Workshop must have hard shoes, and hard shoe work is described as a large focus each day. All camp registration fees are refundable up to 30 days before the camp start date minus a $20 administrative fee, and cancellations less than 30 days before the start date are non-refundable.
Yeates Academy of Irish Dance is described as Oregon’s longest running accredited Irish dance school and the longest running Irish dance school in Oregon and Southwest Washington, and it specializes in traditional and performance-style Irish dance. The academy is an accredited Irish dance school through the Irish Dance Commission (CLRG), and students registered with Yeates Academy are eligible to compete in CLRG-sanctioned competitions. Entering competition (Feiseanna) is encouraged but not required, and participating in workshops is described as a standard component of Irish dance education and essential for the competitive dancer. Dancers competing in feiseanna are required to participate in workshops as part of their training, and dancers attending major competitions such as Oireachtas, Nationals, and World are required to attend the Michael Smith workshop. Competitive Novice/Prizewinner dancers are required to attend at least one Michael Smith workshop a year, Preliminary/Open Champions dancers are required to take the Michael Smith workshops, and if a dancer cannot take the Michael Smith workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, a percentage of the workshop fee is charged so that the material can be focused on in class.
The Yeates Academy of Irish Dance and Yeates Academy Performance Dancers were established in Portland, Oregon, in 1985, and the school opened its doors in 1985. The mission of Yeates Academy is to provide a fair, safe, and comfortable teaching environment, with a family-oriented environment where each student is encouraged to reach his or her potential by listening and accepting feedback from teachers, and its experienced teachers are described as committed to providing a quality Irish dance education with a spirit of building self-esteem and confidence. The leadership team includes Sinéad Yeates, TCRG, Owner, Director, and Senior Instructor; Breda Yeates, Owner/Director; Meaghan Feeback, TCRG, Instructor; and Meghan Bjerke, TCRG, Instructor, with studio directors Sinéad Yeates and Breda Yeates. Sinéad Yeates is TCRG and has 20 years of experience as an accredited Irish dance teacher, and in September 2021 she received a global Irish Dancing Teacher Award from Irish Dancing Magazine, an international award that recognizes excellence in teaching by honoring extraordinary Irish dance teachers; she is one of four teachers in the Western US Region to receive this award and the only one in Oregon and Washington. Meaghan Feeback is TCRG and became an accredited Irish dance instructor in 2014, and Meghan Bjerke is TCRG and became an accredited Irish dance instructor in April 2020. Michael Smith is TCRG & ADCRG and is described as a world-renowned Irish dance choreographer.
