About

Kids & Teens Cooking Classes and Camps offers hands-on cooking experiences that include cooking fundamentals, knife skills, sauce making, baking basics, brunch, plant-based meals, and simple seasonal suppers. Some sessions include foraging wild mushrooms and exploring cooking and farming fundamentals. Classes and camps may also connect with other offerings such as family cooking classes and Summer Kids Camp sessions.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Summer Kids Camp sessions run for 4 days, 9:30 am–3:00 pm, and Kids Summer Break Camp runs for 3 days, 9:30 am–3:00 pm

Chefs in Kids & Teens Cooking Classes and Camps come from different culinary backgrounds and are trained to educate students on topics ranging from foraging and harvesting to knife skills and baking. Kids are grouped into 8–12 (kids) and 13–17 (teens) for specialized classes and camps that focus on cooking and farming fundamentals with a stated emphasis on discipline, responsibility, and hygiene. All necessary equipment is provided, and participants are told they only need to bring themselves, with the option to bring their own knife if they choose, and are advised that comfortable shoes and tied-back hair make participation easier.

The program is part of The Kitchen at Middleground Farms, which has been operating under that name since at least 2014. The Kitchen at Middleground Farms states that it delights in providing guests with a transformative experience they will always remember and aims to create inclusive culinary experiences for every age group. Chef Jessica Hansen is identified as a leader of the program and sends a weekly email that includes news and an event calendar.
