About
The Kitchen at Middleground Farms Kids & Teens Classes and Camps offers kids and teens cooking classes and Summer Kids Camps that include activities such as Back to Basics (knife skills, cooking fundamentals, sauce making, baking basics, and more). The program also offers Family Classes for adult/kiddo pairs, as well as Kids & Teens classes that explore the fundamentals of cooking and farming with a focus on discipline, responsibility, and hygiene. Classes use seasonal ingredients from the farm’s garden and culminate in a family style meal around barn wood tables, and participants receive a packet of recipes from the class to repeat at home.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Summer Kids Camps run on set June, July, and August dates from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and individual classes last between 2 and 3 hours.
The Kitchen at Middleground Farms is a recreational cooking school that explores fundamental skills in the kitchen and garden, including the lost arts of handcrafting and preserving. Kids are broken into two groups: 8–12 (kids) and 13–17 (teens). Specific offerings include Summer Kids Camp, cooking classes, Brunch & Bubbles, Plant-based Meals, Simple Seasonal Suppers, Foodie’s Night Out, Date Night Out, Family Classes, and Foraging Wild Mushrooms. Participants can be as hands-on as they want, from cooking to simply holding a wine glass, and a welcome drink of an adult beverage is offered, with more available for purchase.
The leadership team includes Jessica Hansen (Chef Jessica). The chefs come from different culinary backgrounds and are trained to educate participants on topics ranging from foraging and harvesting to knife skills and baking. The Kitchen at Middleground Farms states its mission as “Creating Culinary Experiences for Food Enthusiasts” and notes that all of the senses will be enriched from time spent at The Kitchen. The program brings participants closer to the source of their food by operating on a family hobby farm and has been in operation at least from 2014 through 2026.
For classes and camps, participants can expect to be in an apron, at a cutting board with a sharp knife, or at the stovetop, and are advised to wear comfortable shoes and tie back long hair. All necessary knives and other equipment are provided, with the option to bring a personal knife if preferred.
