The Alternative Community Resource Program (ACRP) – Youth Programs includes activities such as Recreation & Sports Programs, supervised visits, and youth employment support through the Youth Employment Service (YES) Program. The program also offers multiple therapeutic and educational services, including the After School Therapeutic Program (ASTP), After School Therapeutic Program (Autism), Summer Treatment Program (STP), Achieve Summer Therapeutic Activities Program (Autism), School Based Therapy/Counseling, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), The Incredible Years, Applied Behavioral Analysis & Sensory Room, Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS), and a Respite Program. Additional services include a Peer Support Program, an Approved Academic School (K–5—SED/Behavioral), an Alternative Education Program, the ACRP Center for Achievement – Autism School, School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Systems, an Elementary Program—Altoona Area School District, and access to ACRP Rec Park and ACRP Play Center.

In 1989, ACRP initially began working with youth through child welfare and juvenile justice. The mission of the Alternative Community Resource Program is to respond to the needs of such children and their families. ACRP has 32 programs and provides services in the home, school, and communities, and this service spectrum includes treatment for adults through an Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic. Originally servicing clients in Johnstown, there are now 12 offices and multiple school and office locations covering Cambria, Somerset, Bedford, and Blair counties, employing over 325 individuals and serving 6,000 clients, students, and families annually in the home, school, and communities. ACRP offers activities and opportunities to help children grow, assists students to get back on track academically, socially, and behaviorally, and works as an alternative to placement while providing comprehensive programs and treatment to address emotional, behavioral, and academic issues. ACRP provides services based on the client’s ability to pay using a sliding scale fee schedule. The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is described as a nationally recognized program that helps in recruitment and retention of health professionals.
