Participants also explore relevant issues of social justice and health, create engaging art in varying forms, receive instrumental coaching with weekly skills sessions and personalized coaching, expand their musical repertoire, collaborate on recording projects, participate in ensemble exercises, work on independent projects, and take part in career, workforce, and leadership skills development.

Center of Life Youth Programs were founded in 2001 by Tim Smith. The mission of Center of Life is to provide families and youth with the life skills, education, training, and resources necessary to be strong and to make their communities strong. Center of Life supports the people of Hazelwood and surrounding communities with rich academic out-of-school programs and experiences in music and arts, and it employs a holistic approach to community through all of its programs. The organization states a belief that commitment to others is most productive when walking with those served in their schools, homes, and families, and it works with community members as they strive to make Hazelwood the neighborhood they desire it to be.
